Bio
Comedy Royalty & Broadcasting Legend
David Baddiel’s impact on British culture is undeniable. He first exploded onto the scene as part of The Mary Whitehouse Experience, a show that revolutionized sketch comedy. Alongside Rob Newman, he made history as the first comedian to sell out Wembley Arena, playing to 12,500 people – a moment often cited as turning comedy into “The New Rock’n’roll”. His partnership with Frank Skinner in Fantasy Football League and Baddiel & Skinner Unplanned created a new genre of unscripted, authentic television. Together with The Lightning Seeds, they penned “Three Lions,” the anthem that has topped the UK charts four times and remains the emotional soundtrack of English football.
Acclaimed Author & Literary Success
Beyond the stage, David has reinvented himself as a literary heavyweight. He is the author of twelve hugely successful children’s books, including The Parent Agency, which won the LOLLIE Award for ‘Best Laugh Out Loud Book’ and is currently being adapted for film. His adult novels and non-fiction work have garnered equal praise. His 2021 polemic Jews Don’t Count was named The Sunday Times Politics and Current Affairs Book of the Year, sparking a global conversation about the exclusion of Jews from progressive anti-racist discourse. He has been invited to speak on antisemitism for audiences in Berlin, New York, South Africa, Brazil, Australia, and around the UK. In 2022, Jews Don’t Count was adapted into a documentary for Channel 4.
Documentaries & Advocacy
David’s recent work has showcased his ability to tackle sensitive subjects with grace and humor. His Channel 4 documentary The Trouble with Dad explored his father’s battle with Pick’s Disease, a rare form of dementia. The film, and his subsequent stage show My Family: Not the Sitcom (which was nominated for an Olivier Award), have made him a powerful advocate for dementia awareness, leading to his role as an Ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society.
David also fronted the 2016 travel documentary David Baddiel On The Silk Road (Discovery) and more recently he created and presented both Confronting Holocaust Denial and Social Media, Anger and Us, both documentaries for BBC Two.
Current Projects (2024–2026)
David remains at the peak of his powers. In 2024, he released My Family: The Memoir, a searingly honest and funny exploration of his unconventional childhood. He also hosts the chart-topping podcast A Muslim and a Jew Go There with Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, and took part in the travelogue, Two Men on a Bike, alongside Hugh Dennis. In 2026 David brought us David Baddiel: Cat Man, a three-part documentary series for Channel 4 delving into the nation’s love for our feline friends.

It was an excellent conversation with David today! I know of at least 2 non-Jewish co-workers that attended and then came to my office immediately after and discussed some of the topics with me for the past hour! They are both planning to do more reading and learning related to antisemitism and the Jewish experience. I’m thrilled to see this interest and engagement from non-Jewish allies and want you to know how impactful this has been.
