Sheridan Smith OBE

Actor | Singer

Sheridan Smith OBE is a multi-award-winning actress, singer and presenter, best known for her outstanding performances across TV, film and stage.

An excellent choice to host awards ceremonies, Sheridan can captivate audiences with a song from one of her many much-loved roles, before delivering a warm and highly entertaining tailored introduction ahead of the awards presentation.

Sheridan came to prominence after playing a variety of characters on sitcoms such as The Royle Family (BBC), Two Pints of Larger and a Packet of Crisps (BBC), Gavin & Stacey (BBC) and Benidorm (ITV).  She played the role of Joey Ross on the drama series Jonathan Creek (BBC) and went on to receive acclaim for starring in a succession of television dramas, including The C Word (BBC), Mrs Biggs (ITV) and a BAFTA award-winning performance for her title role in biopic Cilla (ITV).

Sheridan has performed to critical acclaim in many West End musicals including Little Shop of Horrors, Legally Blonde, Funny Girl and Flare Plath.

She released her debut album, Sheridan, in 2017 and followed this up with her second album, A Northern Soul, in 2018.

Sheridan is the recipient of two Laurence Olivier Awards, a British Academy Television Award, a National Television Award and a BPG Award, as well as two International Emmy Award nominations. She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2015 New Year Honours for services to drama.

Most recently, Sheridan has been seen in high octane television dramas such as The Barking Murders (BBC), The Teacher (C5) and No Return (ITV), as well as starring in the feature film The Railway Children Return. She will also be appearing in the forthcoming TV adaptation of David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny Strikes Again on the BBC.

Sheridan stepped in on the day to host our annual awards ceremony. Despite it being incredibly short notice, with our briefing call only taking place on the afternoon of the evening event, Sheridan’s performance was seamless. If the original host hadn’t been pre-announced, our audience would never have known how little time she had to prepare. She wowed our guests with an opening song from Cilla, delivered an enthusiastic and genuine welcome speech and made every one of our winners feel special as she announced and presented each award with as much energy and attention as the one that went before. Sheridan was truly a joy to work with and her appearance made our dinner an event for all to remember.
